Description
Before the era of modern aids to navigation, lightships played a crucial role as beacons and waypoints. Specifically designed for her lonely, rugged post sixty miles offshore, on the edge of Nantucket Shoals, LV 112 was built in 1936 and stationed to mark the beginning of the major ship channel into New York Harbor. Our kit shows NANTUCKET as launched, with a tall stack for her steam boiler, which was changed in 1960 when she was converted to diesel. This is a dramatic, colorful model with many custom etched brass and Britannia fittings.
